The Second Time Around...
Hello!
So sorry it took me so long to post this recipe. I've just been too busy and too happy.
It is so hard to believe that another summer week has gone by.
Last Monday, July 28th, I called into KWMR after just waking up, hearing the sweet little birds right outside my bed here in Stinson Beach. I promise I will be more prompt in giving you my recipes!
I just don't know where the times goes. And I'm still trying to become good friends with my computer (which doesn't seem to speak French!)
Because it was Monday, I described the "Detox Vegetable Soup." This how we French people get to drink so much wine, and still be healthy!
My Family's Detox Vegetable Soup
Put 4 dandelion tea bags into 2 quarts of boiling water
Then throw in 3 cloves of minced garlic
Add the following (while listening to some Mozart)
-half cup minced onion
- 1 quarter cup of chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped carrot
- 1 cup chopped zucchini
- 1 cup tomatoes
- 1 cup chopped yellow squash
- 2 cups chopped curly mustard greens or spinach
- 1 tbs. apple cider vinegar
- (A small pinch of cayenne pepper)
- 4, 6 radishes, chopped
Infuse dandelion tea bags in water for about 5 minutes in large saucepan
Remove tea bags. Add garlic and vegetables to tea water and bring to boil. Lower heat and add remainder of ingredients.
Simmer until vegetables are soft (about 15 minutes).
Please sip this broth throughout the day.
If you find yourself hungry during the day, beyond scheduled meals or snacks, please sip one cup of this soup, which is low in sodium and high in compounds that aid on detoxification. (The radishes help the liver digest and metabolize stored fat.)
I like to have the the left over vegetables with a squeeze of lemon juice for dinner. If still hungry, one cup of plain yogurt and seasonal fruit can be added to the menu.
The second recipe is a Fruit Cobbler. I've looked at over 30 recipes of fruit cobblers over the last few years, and this one
is my favorite. It never fails to please!
Here you go...
Please mix 1 half cup melted unsalted butter with the following:
- 1 cup Sugar (I like Sucannat)
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup quick oatmeal
- 1 quartertable spoon baking powder
- 1 quarter teaspoon salt
- 1 quarter teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups of blueberries
- 2 cups of sliced strawberries
Then put the fruit in a buttered #8 Pyrex dish, and pray!
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes...
Then, after a sip of fine wine, add the above mixture on top:
Whipped 1 pint heavy cream (mixed with one half cup of sugar or 2 table spoons of local Marin County honey)
for 3 minutes . It might seem like an eternity, but anticipation is part of the fun!!!
Serve this goo on top of this great cobbler!
Here's my quote:
"Everything ends this way in France -- everything. Weddings, christenings, dules, burials, swindlings, diplomatic affairs --
everything is a pretext for a good dinner" -- Jean Anouih.
